Module Description 

This module will explore social work and multi-agency practice interventions applicable to working with children, families and adults in need and at risk of harm. 

Students will examine how these are informed by theory, research and the voices of children and adults. Knowledge of inquiries and serious case reviews inform learning and concepts of prevention and protection are central themes to the module. Understanding thresholds and the application of professional judgment underpin best-practice models.

Up-to-date case studies are used to promote discussion relating to current and contemporary practice

This module prepares students for their first practice placement and future social work roles by building key knowledge & application of legislation and process with a focus on assessment and safeguarding and the complex interplay of competing rights and demands when assessing children, adults and families.
 
This module links well with another first-year module (SWK7001) and consolidates learning relating to working with children, adults and families.
